CUSC BU14 Odyssey Cup Tournament
2/17/10
The Cerritos United SC BU14 team kicked off the year in good form by reigning champion at the Odyssey Cup 2010 presented by Adidas the weekend of Jan. 9-10. This 2 day event, was hosted by South Bay
Force SC on fields throughout the beach communities of Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Torrance, and Redondo Beach. The CUSC squad went 3-0 in bracket play with a goal differential of 17:1, thus securing their spot
in the championship game.
In the finale, a very confident CUSC team, was able to control the tempo of what resulted in a very physical game against North Valley SC HotSpur. The NVSC team proved tough opposition through the first half of
play only to finally succumb as the game went on, leaving CUSC victorious with a 2-0 result. Although the tournament had many efforts of notable mention that included the tough play on the defensive side
led by center defender, Jesus Martinez, the unyielding leadership of midfielders, Alex Rodriguez and Stevie Nadal, and the inspirational play of injured midfielder, Ivan Barajas, the most valuable player award was
presented to forward David Cortes, whose tireless effort created many of the team’s scoring opportunities.
The CUSC BU14, coached by Santino Prado, now turn their attention to the Spring Season, State Cup, and other tournaments in the upcoming months, where they hope to continue their dominance.

CUSC B-U9 Team Gaining Momentum
1/14/10
After a long and difficult first season, the CUSC B-U9 team has begun to show signs of significant progress and promise of a successfully competitive future. During their first appearance at League Cup in December 2009, the U9’s beat Canyon PSA Red in a 3-2 game, and then defeated Arsenal FC White 7-1, thus qualifying them to advance to the Round of 32 where they lost to Valley United Red in a hard fought game.
The team celebrated the beginning of 2010 by placing 2nd in the Long Beach Mayor’s Cup with only 8 players. In the playoff game, the boys played their hardest, losing to FC Downey by only 1 point, making the final score of the tournament 2-1.

The Team went undefeated in bracket play coming in first in Silver South. And started League Cup play on Dec, 5. They started slow winning there first game 4 to 3 against the FC Blades from Irvine. Javier Gonzalez,Justin Villaecusa, Jose Ortiz and Kevin Aragon all got a goal for a come from behind victory. Their second game came against a big team Arsenal from San Bernardino. The boys slowly took them apart with a score of 4 to 1. Adrian Rosales, Adi Jahic, Edgardo Diaz and Tyler Marquez all scored. This advanced them to the round of 8 where they came against the Vikings a Silver Elite team that had gone undefeated for 2 years from Los Alamitos and won handly 4 to 2.
Leaving shock waves on the bu-10 bracket they played at the San Juan Capistrano Polo Fields in terrential rain and muddy field on Saturday Dec 12. The boys were anxious and in a very hard fought physical and wet game where we went into penaly kicks to decide the winner after the other team tied on a Buzzer Beater shot that went into penalty kicks to decide the winner that would go to the finals. Coach Ben Prado let the parents and team know they had a great successful season again as hard as it was to lose in Pk’s. The team should be playing in gold next year and we will be looking for a few players to add to our roster.

CUSC 94 Wins Wolfpack Invitational
7/19/09
Congratulations to CUSC 94 for winning their first tournament of the summer, the Wolfpack Invitational, the weekend of July 18 and 19, 2009. With a successful spring season in hand, the boys went into the tournament with high expectations. Not to be disappointed, the boys ended bracket play with only one loss in favor of the Pateadores of Mission Viejo, a team that went themselves undefeated in bracket play. The two teams met again, in the championship match, this time, however, with a different result. The well played but tense game ended in a 0-0 tie, sending the teams to penalty kicks to decide the champion. After several great saves by both keepers, CUSC led by one goal with one shot left by the Pats. The boys, however, were not to be disappointed as keeper David Lopez went far to his left to block the Pats’ last shot, giving the boys the championship!

CUSC 99 Blue
The CUSC 99 Boys started out slow this summer, being finalists in the Cerritos Premier Cup and the OC Kickoff tournaments. But as the season progressed they gained their stride and took the Silver South Bracket, coming in first and allowing only 9 goals all season. The team is currently hosting open tryouts for next season.
